The landscape in and of the body
"

Sawan Taank, born in 1996 in Delhi, completed his Bachelor's in Painting from Visva-Bharati University, Kala-Bhavana, Santiniketan, West Bengal (2014-2018). He later pursued his MFA in Painting from the Government College of Art, Chandigarh (2020-2022). His works respond to Identity and self-expression, offering insights into navigating our social responsibilities and relationships. The complex relationship between society and nature is the primary focus, and he wants to situate his Practice in this way. He believes empathy awakens social awareness, the first step toward transformation. We can engage in empathetic consciousness through inquiries into the lives and emotions of those depicted in these paintings. His work delves into the intricacies of masculinity and the internal conflicts of men. Using various media, frequently explores Identity, social expectations, and personal disputes to convey these internal conflicts. Dealing with trauma, violence, and the quest for Identity amid social crises and conflict are a few examples. His work has been featured in prestigious national and international exhibitions, including the India Art Fair, Nero Art Hub Gallery, Vivacom Art Hall (Bulgaria), and the Tokyo International Art Fair, Vichitrta Desh Q Nation Art Exhibition in 2023 ( Visual Art Gallery), French Institute Art Fair in 2023.
