In this work, I respond to colonial-era painting and its problematic representations of human figures, especially the native body. By re-examining these aesthetic frameworks, I highlight how these historical modes of depiction continue to influence the ways bodies and environments are visualised. I include a water fountain viewed from a semi–mid-top perspective, allowing the spectator to focus on the stagnant water collected inside rather than the usual spectacle of flowing water. This altered viewpoint challenges the idealised, decorative gaze of colonial imagery and brings attention to overlooked, grounded realities within the scene.
