Theatre of the Rangda is a work created through intricate leather cuts. Rangda, a central and fearsome figure in Balinese Hindu mythology, embodies the Queen of Leyaks (evil spirits), witchcraft, and the destructive forces of nature. Unlike Western toys, this sacred figure is a revered cultural icon used in traditional Balinese dance-dramas, particularly the Calon Arang, which narrates the eternal struggle between good (Barong) and evil (Rangda). Discovering this art during my residency in Zurich was inspiring—witnessing how a single cultural object carries deep stories and spiritual resonance was truly remarkable.
