Few lines: This painting reinterprets the **_Mahishasur Mardini_** narrative from Hindu mythology, transforming it into a metaphor for our contemporary world. Rather than merely depicting an epic battle, the work situates myth within the tensions of present reality. Here, gods and demons become symbolic of our modern struggles—environmental degradation, political unrest in Bengal, and the shifting contours of cultural identity. Through this dialogue between myth and modernity, the painting allows the past and present to merge, inviting viewers to witness an unfolding continuum where history, belief, and lived experience coexist on the same canvas. This work i taken inspiration from "**_Chalchitra Patta scroll_**_". _Chalchitra” is a traditional Bengal art form used as the vibrant backdrop of the Durga pratima (idol), especially during Durga Puja. Rich in symbolism and visual storytelling, this episodic scroll painting often depicts mythological narratives such as Mahishasur Mardini—the slaying of the demon Mahishasur by Goddess Durga. It represents both spiritual mythology and deep-rooted cultural memory. In this project, I aim to reinterpret the Chalchitra tradition through my own conceptual lens and artistic process. Drawing metaphorically from Hindu mythology and infusing it with Bengali proverbs, present condition political, social. I seek to create a layered visual narrative that reflects the evolving identity of Bengal today.
