Few lines: This painting portrays the atmosphere of a school — at first glance, it might seem like an ordinary classroom scene. A group of students stands on the desk, holding their ears. Yet, their expressions and body language reveal something unusual — they do not look like real students at all. On closer inspection, it becomes clear that they are all adults disguised as children. Every element in the painting serves as a metaphor. Beneath the surface of a seemingly playful setting lies a deep commentary on contemporary society. In one side, a rabbit sits, her body language represents, she is a teacher — a quiet observer of the absurdity unfolding. The walls of the classroom are filled with symbolic imagery, each representing fragments of our current social and educational realities — particularly reflecting on the state of education, society, and safety in West Bengal. At first sight, the painting may appear whimsical, almost like a scene from a fantasy world or a humorous tale. Yet, as one delves deeper, each layer reveals sharp satire and subtle humour, turning the ordinary into a mirror of our times. The idea of presenting the painting in this way comes from the folk tales I heard or watched on television in my childhood. Those stories — filled with imagination, innocence, and hidden wisdom — have resurfaced through this work, shaping both its form and its soul.
