Theatre of Black is a site-specific installation that unfolds through projected shadow play. At its center, a human figure—formally inspired by a found Greek bronze sculpture of Poseidon—interacts with a bird in a continuous looping movement. The human form carries classical beauty: proportioned, dignified, almost heroic. It represents humanity in its idealized self-image—powerful, aesthetic, dominant. Opposite this figure is the bird, symbolizing the other life forms that coexist with us: fragile yet free, vulnerable yet sovereign. The projected performance is a random, endless loop of dance-like interactions between the human and the bird. Sometimes they appear harmonious, sometimes distant, sometimes almost confrontational. This repetition creates a narrative without a fixed beginning or end—suggesting the ongoing, unresolved relationship between humanity and the natural world. The blackness of the theatre becomes both void and womb: a space of reflection. In shadow, details disappear and only movement remains. The work reminds us how easily we forget the delicate balance we share with other beings. While humanity often centers itself as divine or superior, the installation questions this position. What is beauty without coexistence? What is power without responsibility? Through light, shadow, and looping choreography, Theatre of Black becomes a meditation on shared nature—an atmospheric commentary on interdependence, memory, and the fragile harmony between human life and all other living forms.
