You’ve been played
2026
Acrylic on canvas
This painting depicts a DJ with a CCTV camera for a head, standing over a turntable with two glowing red record buttons. Instead of entertaining the crowd, the DJ is watching them. The lens replaces eyes, suggesting constant observation rather than connection. The turntable symbolizes control. As the record spins, it represents our daily lives. looped, sampled, and remixed. The two record buttons emphasize that while we think we are freely dancing, we are also being captured. Every movement becomes data. Every moment is archived. The CCTV-headed DJ suggests that surveillance doesn’t just watch,it curates and manipulates. Like a DJ choosing the next track, systems of surveillance predict and shape our behavior. We believe we’re choosing the music, but in reality, we may be the ones being played.
