“THE LINE – YOU CAN’T CROSS” extends “The Uninhabited” series by sharpening its inquiry into territories rendered peripheral through governance rather than geography. While “The Uninhabited” reflects on spaces emptied or suspended by political neglect, this work foregrounds bodies that must repeatedly transgress an imposed boundary to survive. Set along the India–Bangladesh border in Tripura, it examines how agrarian life persists within a paradox: land that is cultivated daily yet officially inaccessible, productive yet politically void. The farmers’ routine act of climbing barbed wire destabilizes the idea of borders as fixed or absolute, revealing them instead as fragile constructs sustained by force. Materials such as, GI wire, and natural fiber pulp are employed not symbolically but structurally, echoing both the physical barricades and the precarious resilience of those who confront them. The work articulates a landscape shaped by uncertainty, where survival demands continuous negotiation with invisible lines, and habitation exists in a state of enforced impermanence.
