My work centres around landscapes, agriculture, and the lives of farmers, reflecting my deep connection to this world through my family background in agriculture. My artistic journey has grown from these roots, and so has my commitment to portraying this community's struggles and resilience. In my village and across the northeastern region, most people rely on agriculture for their livelihood. However, this year, continuous heavy rains and severe flooding in August destroyed our paddy fields, which are a primary food source for the year. The disaster has displaced 46,271 families and damaged over 103,000 hectares of crop land in Tripura, affecting 266,000 farmers. Tragically, some even lost their lives due to the calamity. Through my latest work, both in a story book and a sculpture, I’ve tried to capture the emotional toll of this disaster on thousands of affected people. I crafted the sculpture using materials such as tissue paper pulp, straw pulp, natural fibers, jute, and ink to convey the texture and fragility of life dependent on the land, bringing attention to the strength and suffering of my community.
