“Between silence and rebellion”
I grew up in an ex-ULFA camp in Goalpara, Assam, surrounded by stories the state wanted to erase. This shaped everything; my drawings, installations, films, and sound works examine the displacement, resistance, and collective memory of Northeast India, focusing on narratives silenced by political conflict. I work directly with communities connected to my own histories, using archival material, interviews, video, and physical structures to construct fragile yet resilient narratives. For me, art is a space for reclaiming stories and making visible the invisible experiences of those impacted by conflict. I've received the Umrao Singh Sher-Gil Grant for Photography (2025), the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant (2025), and the Prince Claus Seed Award (2024). My work has been exhibited at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (2025), Whitechapel Gallery in London (2025), Angkor Photo Festival in Cambodia (2025), and Bengal Biennale (2024).
