Gopa Roy

Originally from Tripura, my works include drawing, paper-making, and installations. The subjects of my work are directly connected to the landscapes, farming life, and cultural world of my home, especially near the Indo - Bangladesh border. Growing up in an agricultural family, I developed an extremely personal relationship with the land which marks how I often explore the ecological issues and political boundaries that shape everyday rural life. My recent body of work focuses on the devastating floods in Tripura. Using delicate, organic materials like paper pulp and natural fibers, I attempt to reflect the fragility of life tied to this land. I often engage in community art projects in my ancestral village, aiming to preserve local memories and histories.
