“Elephants in the room”
My practice is deeply informed by my childhood spent close to nature in Assam, India. This connection informs how I approach installation, sculpture, drawing, and 3D animation to explore current socio-ecological issues. I focus on the fragile landscapes of Northeast India, like the Dehing Patkai rainforest, and the critical issues of ecological destruction and resource exploitation. I often integrate traditional craft with upcycled materials to make the work both tangible and meaningful.
I use material as a way to carry memory and testimony, making things like bamboo and found objects "witnesses" to the damage done to the land. My work frequently features the elephant, a symbol of displacement and endurance, especially considering the intense human-wildlife conflict in my home region.
