**Echoes of Mountain – 1** This artwork emerges from a deep dialogue between tradition, sustainability, and identity. Created using discarded cardboards, paper-mâché from old books, and natural pigments, it embodies the philosophy of reusing materials while simultaneously celebrating cultural heritage. Rooted in Ladakhi architectural aesthetics, the work reflects the unique textures, voids, and structural patterns of homes shaped by the mountains themselves. At its center is a human figure whose form merges with architectural motifs an expression of the inseparable bond between people and their environment. The rugged, textured surface echoes the scars and contours of Ladakh’s fragile terrain, while the integrated architectural forms evoke resilience, endurance, and the wisdom of living in balance with nature. Yet beneath this resilience lies a subtle sorrow. This piece carries the _saddened feeling of the mountains_, a quiet mourning for the ecological degradation unfolding across the region. The muted tones and weathered textures speak to landscapes that are enduring increasing strain melting glaciers, shifting seasons, and growing pressures on a delicate ecosystem. The human figure wears the traditional Ladakhi cap, but unlike its customary upward tilt, the sides here are turned downward. In Ladakhi culture, this gesture signifies grief a silent acknowledgement of loss. Through this symbolic inversion, the work takes on a layer of political satire and social commentary. It reflects not only the mourning of the mountains but also the collective sorrow felt in Ladakh following a recent and unfortunate incident that shook the community. The grief embedded in the cap becomes a metaphor for a region navigating emotional, environmental, and political uncertainties. By transforming fragile materials into a textured landscape of memory and meaning, **Echoes of Mountain – 1** becomes a meditation on belonging, ecological responsibility, and the quiet resilience of a community facing both environmental vulnerability and complex contemporary realities.
