The Deep Moans Round With Many Voices In this painting, I transform old newspapers into a handmade plate—its form echoing the humble food-serving plates found in middle-class Indian homes. This recycled paper plate becomes a site of memory and meaning, carrying the weight of lived reality. Upon its surface lies a charcoal drawing, a quiet yet potent metaphor for the socio-political injustices that press upon the lower middle class. The fragile paper, once filled with headlines and promises, now becomes a vessel that reveals how policies—especially those related to education—shape, burden, and often fail the common people. Through this everyday object, reconstructed and reimagined, the work listens to the “many voices” of those who bear the consequences of shifting governance. It reflects on how the ordinary plate—symbol of sustenance and survival—also becomes a silent witness to the struggles of a nation’s most vulnerable minds and futures.
