Layers of Displacement, 2 (Set of 5)

Mixed Media (Construction Waste on Paper)

8 × 5 in

My two-dimensional works explore the fragile intersection between natural landscapes and the growing presence of urban waste, using a deliberate layering process to reflect the complexity of this relationship. I work with remnants of urban waste embedding them into my surfaces as both material and metaphor. Each layer signifies a stage of transformation: land stripped, habitats disrupted, and nature buried beneath the weight of human intervention. This visual sedimentation mirrors the physical reality of land displacement and habitat fragmentation. As cities expand, natural environments are not just altered—they are overwritten. Forest floors become dumping grounds, wetlands dry into construction sites, and the ecosystems that once thrived are forced into retreat. Through my work, I attempt to map these losses and make visible what is often ignored. The evolving nature of human activity—driven by consumption, expansion, and neglect—has reshaped our environmental narrative. My layered compositions serve as quiet, tactile protests, capturing both the erosion of ecological balance and the endurance of the land beneath. These works are not just observations but reminders: that every fragment of waste is part of a larger story, and every layer added obscures what we stand to lose
