A closer look:
This work looks at the widespread use of plastic in our everyday lives and how deeply it has become a part of almost everything we do. The work shows a group of people standing in a queue, each holding plastic bags. The queue could be for anything- milk, vegetables, rice, or any of the countless things we buy and consume every day.
What interests me is how familiar the act of standing in a queue is in our country. We are taught to wait for our turn, and this experience is particularly familiar to the middle and lower classes. At the same time, the use of plastic is often criticised as a habit of the uneducated or less privileged, while the enormous amount of plastic used by large industries and corporations is rarely questioned in the same way.
Through this work, I wanted to bring these two sides together, the everyday use of plastic by ordinary people and the much larger systems of consumption that surround it. The queue becomes a way of looking at this contradiction and asking who is really responsible for the problem.
