These works look at what I see as the sheep-like nature of the middle class in our society. Just as sheep are herded from one place to another in search of better pastures, the middle class often moves from one place to another in search of better opportunities and a better quality of life. I have often been intrigued by the journeys that the middle class undertake to build a more secure and comfortable life for themselves and their families. For me, the image/metaphor of sheep comes with a double connotation- it speaks of being a bearer of burdens, but also of following a path that has already been set. There is something both vulnerable and determined in that image- of moving forward, even when the destination is not entirely your own.
