A closer look:
This series of works was made during my first international artist residency at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Scotland. During the residency, I spent a lot of time walking through the distillery and its vast warehouses, where thousands of whisky casks are stored.
As I explored these spaces, I kept noticing the deer emblem on the tops of the whisky casks. The symbol was everywhere and slowly became something I associated with the distillery. What stayed with me was seeing real deer roaming freely in the forest around it. There was something interesting about seeing the animal itself alongside the symbol that represented it.
This connection between the deer, the landscape and the distillery became the starting point for the series. It was this experience that eventually led to the title, The King of the Distillery.
